Why FI?

Here is my why for FI:

  1. For my family. I have 2 daughters and a beautiful wife who I love.  Any goal that ends with me spending more time with my family drives my decision to pursue an outcome.
  2. For flexibility. The freedom to have flexibility of choice is far more important to me than rampant wealth. Cash alone does not define wealth.
  3. For my community. My efforts in my job at a consumer goods company just don’t seem like they are going to lead to a community and world impact that I will be comfortable with when I am on my deathbed.

These pillars are my guideposts for achieving financial freedom. I believe that you need to set a vision for your life if you want to achieve it.  I see days where I sit down for breakfast before school and I’m home for dinner at night.

But what is my why for the blog:

  1. For you.  I do not think that the thoughts I share here will be groundbreaking or that they will make you achieve FI. But, if I can help anyone achieve his or her why, I’m in.

Several years ago I developed a personal values model that I continue to reference. Here it is:

Personal Values

These 5 values drive my decision making on a daily basis.  I would encourage you to create a similar model for yourself.
