Here is my why for FI:
- For my family. I have 2 daughters and a beautiful wife who I love. Any goal that ends with me spending more time with my family drives my decision to pursue an outcome.
- For flexibility. The freedom to have flexibility of choice is far more important to me than rampant wealth. Cash alone does not define wealth.
- For my community. My efforts in my job at a consumer goods company just don’t seem like they are going to lead to a community and world impact that I will be comfortable with when I am on my deathbed.
These pillars are my guideposts for achieving financial freedom. I believe that you need to set a vision for your life if you want to achieve it. I see days where I sit down for breakfast before school and I’m home for dinner at night.
But what is my why for the blog:
- For you. I do not think that the thoughts I share here will be groundbreaking or that they will make you achieve FI. But, if I can help anyone achieve his or her why, I’m in.
Several years ago I developed a personal values model that I continue to reference. Here it is:

These 5 values drive my decision making on a daily basis. I would encourage you to create a similar model for yourself.
